Wolverines show thanks for many things over holidays, especially food
Get ready to loosen your belt and make room for seconds because Thanksgiving break is on the way. For most people, Thanksgiving includes stuffing your face and sleeping ‘till Christmas, but it also includes sitting down, with family and friends, and sharing what you are most thankful for.
“My favorite part of Thanksgiving is being around my family and friends,” senior Laura Coyoy said. “And being able to spend time with them, and finally talk, after being separated because we have different routines that we do everyday.”
Students have many things going on during Thanksgiving, whether that means traveling, going Black Friday shopping, or going into a food-induced coma, they all involve being surrounded by family and friends. “Besides Christmas, it’s the only holiday you can be with your family emotionally and physically,” said junior Fatima Ruano.
With the new cell tower, the new grading system, and later bell times, Watkins Mill students have a lot to be thankful for this year. “My grades have been a lot better this year than last year, I am thankful for [the changes],” junior Zully Cruz said.
Students may celebrate Thanksgiving differently but one thing that stays the same is the food. From turkey to mashed potatoes these classic dishes can be found at any table during Thanksgiving, food is a favorite part of the holiday across the board.
“I love to prepare Thanksgiving lunch because I cook from the time I get up at four in the morning until the time we eat at one in the afternoon,” hospitality management teacher Lisa Gilbert said. “I cook everything from scratch.”
Gilbert has many recipes for this Thanksgiving like cranberry relish, and pumpkin rolls but students’ favorite recipe from Gilbert is her cranberry meatballs. All you need is a bag of meatballs, a can of cranberry sauce, and a jar of chili sauce. Combine all ingredients into a crock pot until warm and then enjoy!
