Why 70s fashion should come back

The 70s fashion era was an iconic era of clothing trends that included pieces like bell bottom pants, platform shoes, and bell-sleeves. This was an era of being bold and making a statement.

Fashion of the 1970s was diverse, reflecting a new interest in clothing as self-expression. Women’s fashion looked back to the 1940s by day and pumped up the glamor by night. Men had an array of suits to choose from and favored colorful plaids. No single look encompassed the decade, which entailed a mix of hippie, retro, and punk.

Everything about this fashion era was perfect. It took pieces from previous decades like the 40s, 50s, and 60s, and made them timeless. It encompassed themes of pop art and psychedelia with bold prints in bright colors and geometric designs.

As skirts got shorter and boots got taller, the groovy styles of this era are here to stay. Staples of this psychedelic decade were definitely flare—flare everything. Flare pants and bell bottoms were staple pants that everyone had in their wardrobe, and yes, they should come back. Originating from sailor uniforms to mainstream fashion in the 1960s, the style peaked in popularity in the 1970s. Gone are the days of skinny jeans, and here are the days of bell bottoms.

If you’re looking to gain a couple inches in height, platform shoes are perfect for you! Platform shoes and tall white boots (which I have both of) are the shoes of the 70s, that give flair to any boring, average outfit.

Another fun staple piece of the groovy decade was the maxi dresses with bright patterns. These dresses are flattering on pretty much anyone and are beautiful. These dress styles originated and were inspired by the freedom-fighting and flower-power movements. These long, flowy dresses give an elegant look and are absolutely perfect for the upcoming summer.

Pantsuits, especially for women, came to popularity in this era. In the late 60s, wearing a pantsuit was more of a political statement; it signified one’s alignment with the feminist movement. However, by the 70s, the pantsuit became the ideal business wear for women as a power symbol to prove they were as serious as the men who shared their workspace. With summer jobs approaching, pantsuits are a perfect outfit to look professional and stylish.

Clothing is one thing but to complete an outfit, accessories are crucial. That’s where the pearl jewelry comes in. Pearls came into style in the early 20s, however, few women could afford them due to the expensive prices of real pearls. Fake pearls came into style due to their affordability during the 70s. Many of the popular pearls in the 70s were pastel colors rather than white. Pearls are a way to create an elegant touch to any dress or outfit.

This freedom and flower movement era of clothing is here to stay and thrive. There is truly something for everyone in this iconic time period for fashion.
