Life without seniors
With the seniors last day being Friday, May 26 there is an absence in the school that feels kind of weird. It’s probably because I’m a junior and interacted with the seniors a lot more than other years. But there is just something about this absence that I can’t explain.
I’ve been getting rides home from my long time friend, Rudy W. A lot of you might know him. He started driving me home two weeks ago and when we tried to leave, it would take us about 15 minutes to just get out of the school parking lot.
There were a lot of people that drove and it was extremely clogged. But on Monday, May 29, the first day the seniors were gone, we got out of the parking lot in 5 minutes at the most. It was weird I found myself entering my house at 2:40. I felt like I came home way too early but that’s besides the point.
You also notice the absence of the seniors when walking the halls. Everyday, I walk through the mixing bowl and it would always be a hassle navigating through the many bodies standing around socializing. There would be times that I had to stop and wait for people to move or even completely turn around so I could get to my destination or find a completely new way to get there.
I never went a day without bumping into someone in the mixing bowl until, you guessed it, that Monday. I walked straight through at the same pace and got through in no time. It felt weird and I had forgotten that the seniors’s entire year was over until my friend reminded me that the seniors were gone.
It’s weird but in all honesty, I’m going to enjoy these last couple of weeks with the ability to get going on my way with little interference. It’s baffling that in just one year, that will be me and school will be over. But I’m living life day by day, enjoying myself, and the people around me.
