Lady Wolverines volleyball looks to bump up the enthusiasm as they take on the Albert Einstein Titans today after losing a hard-fought game against the Cougars at Quince Orchard High School on Thursday.

Senior Mary Munjam said, “I hope we play [today] the way we played against Damascus.”

The Wolverines took the first set from the Cougars 26-24 with big contributions from seniors Lauren Montgomery and Kristel Galvez. The ‘Rines and Cougars then traded sets until QO won two in a row, ending the match. Although the result wasn’t what they wanted, Watkins Mill played an outstanding game.

“We keep coming close with these teams, but we have to learn to push to beat them,” senior Tiffany Haynes said.

In another heavyweight matchup, the ‘Rines played an amazing game against Clarksburg High School on October 19. Although it resulted in another 2-3 loss, the Wolverines played well in their senior night game. Clarksburg came out strong winning the first set, but the Wolverines came back and dominated the second set.

Senior Spring McCarthy said, “I think we played well but we could’ve done better in some areas like communication.”

After Clarksburg won the third set of the game, the Lady Wolverines played a very strong fourth set to send the game to five sets. The Coyotes took the fifth and final set by a slim margin of two points. Even though they played very well, the senior leaders believe they could play better.

Senior Spring McCarthy said that she thinks the team can play a lot better going forward. The game against Clarksburg was big because it was the team’s annual “Dig Pink” game and it was senior night.

Senior Lauren Montgomery said, “I don’t think it’s really set in yet” about playing her last home game at Watkins Mill. She added, “I think our coaches play a big role in our success.”

Senior, Delmi Dominguez said the team needs to work on communicating with each other and calling for the ball.

Both McCarthy and Dominguez  gave tremendous credit to their coaching staff and varsity coach Rick Riley. The team will look to close the season out strong with only two games left until the playoffs. They are gelling and play their best at the perfect time.
