Varsity Wolverine football looks to butt heads with the Rockville High School Rams at home this Friday for our Homecoming game after suffering a tough loss to Seneca Valley 21-42 on October 9.

The ‘Rines took on a 4-1 Seneca Valley team looking to give them their second loss of the season but could not quite get it done in The Den. Although they were down early, the boys fought hard to get back in the game after halftime to close the gap to a manageable deficit.

The team struggled early in the game to move to ball but picked it up down the stretch. “We just need to execute on both sides of the ball,” junior safety Josh Amoateng said.

Wide receivers freshman Demetrius Rush and senior Daquan Wims have become the favorite targets for junior quarterback Markel Grant. The dynamic duo both caught several passes and made life hard for the Screamin’ Eagles defensive backs.

The ‘Rines took a break from their peaceful protest against Seneca Valley to show respect for the armed forces on Watkins Mill’s Military Night. Instead of kneeling, the team locked arms to symbolize unity. “We did it so that the military veterans wouldn’t feel disrespected,” senior defensive lineman Nigel Duberry said.

Entering October, the team is aware of the popular NFL and collegiate trend of wearing pink in order to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Watkins Mill has decided to join this challenge for themselves. With their own little touch, they’ve decided to make “donations to breast cancer research,” Amoateng said.

As for Friday, the team is getting their game plan ready for their game against the Rams. ““We feel amazing for this week and the rest of the season… [we are] definitely going to have more intense focus this week of practice,” junior linebacker Clint Okoli said.

Let’s make Orange Nation a force to be reckon with as we participate in our Homecoming spirit week leading up to our game in The Den versus the Rockville Rams on October 14.
