Field Hockey team looks to exterminate Hornets tonight at home
Wolverines field hockey looks to take on the Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets tonight and pick up their second win of the season. The team is coming off of a hard-fought tie against the Rockville Rams and look to maintain that same fire.
The ‘Rines played a long, tough game against the Rockville Rams last Friday, September 23. The team battled to get the win. The game went to two overtimes, and even went to stroke at the end, but both teams played solid defense, and the game ended with a final score of 2-2. Senior Rachael Thompson and junior Katherine Campbell each scored one goal in the game.
“We were definitely better than them, we just couldn’t finish and make a goal,” Campbell said. “I think we just needed to work on finishing more, [and] holding on to the ball.”
The Lady ‘Rines suffered a devastating loss to the Blake Bengals last Tuesday, September 20. The girls fought to compete with a talented Blake team, who came into the game undefeated, but in the end lost 0-4.
“We definitely should have gone into the game with a better mindset,” senior Elena Rodriguez added. ”We all have different puzzle pieces, but we haven’t put them together yet, we’re new and we’re still learning.”
The team suffered a tough loss to the Poolesville Falcons on Thursday, September 15. The ‘Rines battled hard to beat a talented Falcons team, but in the end fell 1-3. Thompson scored the team’s only goal at the end of the first half. “I think we played well, considering Poolesville has one of the best teams and in the past we have lost by more,” Thompson said.
Tonight’s game starts at 7 p.m. and is here, at the Mill, so all of Orange Nation should come out to support!
