Girls soccer looks to defeat Knights on battlefield Monday
Girls soccer looks to rule the Wheaton Knights on their turf Monday at 7:15pm. Going into the third game of the season with a 1-1 record, the Lady ‘Rines are looking for their second win.
The girls soccer team exorcised the Springbrook Blue Devils on Tuesday, 2-1. The Lady Wolverines scored twice in the first half while keeping the Blue Devils at zero until late into the second half. Sophomore Annie Riley and senior Paige Glenzer each had one goal in the game.
“We couldn’t play them easy,” junior Heaven Atta said. “We had to play them like they were Damascus…and we kept it together.”
Lady ‘Rines’ season opener against the Damascus Hornets on September 6 left them with a 6-0 loss. “After the first 15 minutes I think we [did really well],” senior Shaniya Randolph said. “[But] I think towards the end we fell apart.” Despite the score, the Lady ‘Rines had a great start but just fell short.
Senior Emma Buck, junior Megan Dakwa and sophomore Annie Riley were all praised by their teammates for their outstanding effort in last Tuesday’s game.
“I feel like when the first two goals went in, we started to give a little,” Dakwa said. “but we definitely picked it up the last 20 minutes of the second half.” Dakwa had 16 saves against the Hornets.
“I think defensively [Randolph] played really well,” Riley said. “Sam [Whipp] and [Buck] were [also] blocking open shots, stepping to the ball.”
The team’s next game is on Monday, here at the Mill, so all of Orange Nation should come out to support and lead our Lady ‘Rines to victory.
