Field Hockey team looks to dominate Falcons on Wednesday
‘Rines field hockey looks to dominate the Poolesville Falcons on Wednesday. The team is coming into the game with a 1-2 record and looks to pick up their second win in a row after a tremendous victory over the Kennedy Cavaliers.
The team collected a huge 5-0 victory yesterday over the Kennedy Cavaliers. The ‘Rines scored early and often, never looking back after taking the lead. Junior Katherine Campbell and senior Rachael Thompson each had two goals in the game, as well as junior Virginia Schlosser who had one. “We came in more confident, and we really had the idea that we could win,” Thompson said. “So we played harder.”
Wolverines field hockey suffered a tough loss to the Seneca Valley ‘Screamin Eagles on Tuesday. Seneca got an early lead and the ‘Rines were fighting uphill for the whole game. Despite the challenge, the team put together a few scoring chances but in the end, lost 2-0. “Towards the end of the second half, we started playing better,” Thompson added.
The field hockey team opened up their 2016 season with a hard-fought game against the Blair Bulldogs on September 2. The ‘Rines battled until to the last minute, but came up short, losing 2-1. The one goal was scored by junior Katerina Molina. “We needed to work more on our stick work and hustling more, and dodging the ball away from the other team,” Molina said.
Although the team is a young one, they still look to do some big things this season. After getting the ball rolling yesterday, the team looks to continue with the same intensity and pick up win number two of the season against Poolesville on September 14. The game starts at 3:45pm and is here at the Mill, so all of Orange Nation should come out to support!
