Softball looks to out joust the Knights at home tonight
Watkins Mill varsity softball looks to steal a win at home against the Wheaton Knights today at 7 after a disappointing week against the Blake Bengals, Poolesville Falcons, and the Magruder Colonels.
It was a heartbreaking game at Blake with the ‘Rines losing 0-31 to the Bengals on Wednesday. It was a dominating performance by the entire Blake team and the ‘Rines could not overcome it. The undefeated Bengals were consistent for the whole game, never letting the ‘Rines get an opening.
Despite all of the runs allowed, senior Mel Torres had some encouraging words, saying, “Our pitcher, [junior Brittanie Wray], is doing much better.” Torres added, “She was throwing more strikes which is why they were able to hit the ball.” On the other hand, the Bengals threw a perfect game against Watkins Mill, not letting a single ‘Rines on base.
The Blake loss came after two double-digit losses to the Poolesville Falcons on Monday, April 18, and the Magruder Colonels on Saturday April 16, in which the ‘Rines scored just one run total.
The Wolverines’ lone goal from the week was at home against the Falcons in a 1-16 losing effort. Wray had another great game on the pitching mound but the team’s fielding was not able to back her up.
“I think our communication can be improved on just because not a lot of us have played our entire lives, so if we did talk more communicate more it’ll definitely go a lot smoother,” junior Claudia Rius said.
Magruder was able to hold the ‘Rines hitless, as Watkins Mill lost 0-16 on the road. It was the first of three weekend games on the season for the ‘Rines.
“I love my team and I love every single personality that’s on our team,” Rius added. “I still have fun regardless of our ability to play.”
