‘Rines lacrosse looks to silence Screamin’ Eagles at home today
‘Rines boys lacrosse looks to attack the Seneca Valley Screamin’ Eagles tonight at 7:15pm. The team is going into the game with a record of 0-3, and looks to walk off the field with their first win under their belts. The game is at home, so all of Orange Nation should come out to support this first victory of the season.
The Gaithersburg Trojans came out with a fire under them on April 6, scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the first period. Senior Shawn Simpson and junior Michael Lochner scored the next two to tie the score up at 2-2. From there, the team traded blows for the rest of the game until a player from Gaithersburg made the go-ahead shot with minutes left in the game. Watkins Mill tried to answer back but could not get a hold on the ball. The ‘Rines lost by a score of 8-9.
Wolverines lacrosse underwent a rough loss to the Poolesville Falcons on April 4. The team fought hard, but in the end, they lost 20-4. “[Coach Jordan Montesano] told us the game plan, he told us how to win, we just didn’t execute it,” Simpson said.
The team looked to start off the season with a tough out-of-conference match-up at Walter Johnson High School. “We need to focus more, and think things through,” junior Nathan Wright added. “We just need to get our stick skills better… We have a lot of hustle. We just don’t have that many players with stick skills because a lot of people are new to the game.”
Going into tonight’s game, the team looks to play more like a family and execute the game plan that Montesano gives them before the game. They plan to play with the same intensity that they did during the Gaithersburg game, and hopefully come out on top. “We have a lot of potential, we have a lot of athletes,” Wright added. With help from Orange Nation, the team is confident that they will be able to start a winning streak. Good luck ‘Rines!
