Boys basketball looks to start war against Trojans at home tonight

Boys basketball look to leap for their third win on the season as they host Gaithersburg High School tonight at 5:30. The boys ended their two-game skid by clipping the wings off the Poolesville Falcons last Friday. Unfortunately, they then suffered a tough loss against the Seneca Valley Screamin’ Eagles on Tuesday.

Junior guard Rodney Amankwah said that coming into the game, ”[The team] was not prepared… We weren’t mentally ready for this game and did not play as a team.”

Sophomore forward Markel Grant added, ”We know that Seneca is a tough team, and [the Screamin’ Eagles] run their offense at a fast pace.”

The game was moving pretty slow as the Wolverines were keeping up with the Screamin’ Eagles, and in the second half, the speedily- paced offense of Seneca Valley began to commence. The game finished with a score of 30-64. The boys will have an opportunity to avenge themselves when they play Seneca Valley again on February 5.

Prior to Tuesday’s events, the boys defeated the Falcons by a score of 46-38. Junior guard Amara Clemens co-led the team with a total of 11 points along with Grant.

The ‘Rines felt very confident after their performance in the winter exhibitions and it carried on in this game. Going into the game, Clemens said that “the winter tournament went well. [‘Rines Basketball] must stay focused and determined in order to win.

Clemens believes that winning this next game is a must to get the team’s confidence back on track in tonight’s match against the Gaithersburg Trojans.
