Boys basketball battles Warriors at Sherwood tonight after falling prey to Wildcats

Boys varsity basketball team suffered a tough loss against the Walter Johnson Wildcats in the season home opener on December 4.  With a two point differential, the score was 50-52.

It was a rough start to their season, but they look to leave it in the past and defeat the Sherwood Warriors tonight at Sherwood High School at 7:15pm.

”The score was the score and [there are] no excuses to make up,” said the starting senior point guard Jeremy Cherokee.  Cherokee is a captain on the court, dishing off the ball to his teammates. Although the team feels that they didn’t complete their task at the end of the game, the whole game was definitely something to watch.

Junior guard Kendale Sewell is a transfer from Richard Montgomery High School and is adjusting to the play style and tempo of the Watkins Mill basketball team. “[It was] easy to get comfortable with the team, and everything connected,” Sewell said.

His teammate, sophomore Markel Grant praised Sewell in the transition by saying that “[Sewell] gave us the points we needed.” Sewell led the team with 22 points.

“We are just preparing in practice because we know [the Sherwood Warriors are] a good team and [they can shoot very well],” Grant added.

Grant also felt that the team played hard and gave it their all in last week’s game. The boys are confident in what they are up against, but they won’t let their guard down for just any team.

Boys basketball is ready for anything and plans to prove that on the court tonight.
