Watkins Mill girls softball seeks to run over the Springbook Blue Devils Monday afternoon at home at 5:15 pm. The team is coming off of a triumphant win over Northwood High School, and plan to continue with that winning mentality.

Our ‘Rines looked to conquer the Northwood Gladiators yesterday afternoon. Coming off of a string of tough losses, this was a much-needed win for the girls. The team came out ready to go, beating the Gladiators 27-14. “The fact we can show we can do better than other schools gives us a better head on out shoulders,” junior Connie Moody said.

As a result of the inclement weather that we’ve had over the past two weeks, ‘Rines softball looked to take down the Damascus Hornets last Wednesday, May 3 in a game that was originally scheduled for April 24. The ‘Rines battled with the Hornets all game, staying within 5 runs, but the team wasn’t able to bridge the gap, losing 6-13.

The lady ‘Rines looked to take down the Einstein Titans and the Churchill Bulldogs over the past five days. Despite a valiant effort by the ‘Rines, they lost both games on both Saturday, April 29 and Monday, May 1. These two losses brought our girls record to 3-9.

In a game against the Blake Bengals on Thursday, April 27,  the ‘Rines came out firing on all cylinders offensively, but weren’t able to hold the Bengals defensively. The team fought all game to try and keep up with Blake, but ended up losing by a final score of 26-10. “It felt good because it was a good game, we were accomplishing something,” Moody added.

The team looked to run over the Wheaton Knights last Wednesday, April 26. The team came out with a fire under them, immediately pouncing on the Knights. Our lady ‘Rines were able to keep their foot on the throttle all game, beating them 26-4.

Softball played two tough games in a three day period, facing the Magruder Colonels on Thursday, April 20 and the Bethesda-Chevy-Chase Barons on Tuesday, April 18. Although the team battled against both teams, they weren’t able to leave either with a win, losing 15-2 to Magruder and 16-3 to BCC.

“We struggle with remembering the basics…we try and play ahead of ourselves…which causes us not to play to our full potential,” Moody said.

The ‘Rines seeked to conquer the Seneca Valley ‘Screamin Eagles and the Poolesville Falcons on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4 and 5. Even with the determination of the team, they weren’t able to pick up a win on either occasion, losing 17-1 against Seneca Valley and 23-2 to Poolesville.

Come out to the softball field on Monday at 5:15 to support our senior softball players for their last home game at the mill!
