Student Member of the Board of Education, or SMOB for short, represents the students of Montgomery County by holding an official seat on the Board of Education. They can vote on everything except negative personnel (firing someone). They are elected by MCPS 6-12th-grade students! (Seniors can vote!) Our current SMOB is Anuva Maloo.
The SMOB Nomination Convention (Nom Con) is the event where the candidates are narrowed down to 2 finalists, and it happens right here at Watkins Mill! Students from all middle and high schools will attend as delegates and vote for the 2 finalists. This will happen on February 11th, 2026. If you would like to be a delegate for Watkins Mill, Click Here. WM has 8 slots. If more people sign up, there will be a random drawing of the 8 delegates. Keep an eye on your email for more info!
