- Next Generation Leadership Day: (Application Closes March 9th for presenters)
NGLD is a day where middle and high school students present leadership workshops to 4th and 5th graders. You first attend a training day, where you meet your group and learn about the workshops (March 21st @ Carver). The actual NGLD (April 11th) is when you teach the workshops. March 8-15, 2026, Online – You can participate in activities and workshops on dating violence & prevention and earn SSL hours.
March 15, 2026, In person @ Wheaton Community Rec Center (1-4 PM) – You can attend the festival focused on spreading awareness about dating violence and prevention.

This contest asks students to create 30-second PSAs about underage drinking & drunk driving. All the information is in the link (header).
- SMOB Candidates
The SMOB Finalists are Leul Dawit, a sophomore from Northwood High School & Reemay Ghermay, a junior from Walter Johnson High School. The Student Member of the Board is a unique position that allows a student to represent secondary schools on the Board of Education. (Our SMOB is one of only 3 in the state to have full voting rights!) All secondary students can vote, and you should learn more about the candidates and their stances. You can follow both on social media: @reemay4smob and @leul4smob. Leul also has a website (Leul Dawit for SMOB). Make sure to read your email, as voting information will come soon! Voting day is April 22nd

- SMOB Advisory Council Meeting + SMOB Candidates Debate: March 24th (Date Change)
SAC is a group of students who advise/help the SMOB, Anuva Maloo. The meetings are always open for everyone to attend. If you want to voice your opinion on certain topics, want to meet the SMOB, or ask her questions, this is a great place for that! This month, the meeting will feature a SMOB Candidates Debate. - Montgomery County Regional SGA (MCR) Officer Elections!
I will write another article covering this in more detail, but filing for officer elections is officially open until March 22nd! To be eligible for an officer position, you must be a high school student enrolled in MCPS, have attended at least 3 MCR Executive Board meetings (You don’t have to be a member!), have attended 2 MCR GA’s (Including the April GA, where voting happens!), and have completed all nomination forms by March 22nd. Additionally, you cannot be a current SMOB candidate. Check out @mcpssec for more information.

If you are interested in policy-making and student government at a higher level than school SGA, then consider joining MCR. Currently, applications are closed; however, the Executive Board Meetings are always open to anybody interested. Meetings are usually on the first Tuesday of every month, but check out their Instagram page for more information! (By the time this article is posted, the meeting will have already passed)
