Goosebumps Review

Cheyenne reviews one of her favorite shows Goosebumps.

Goosebumps is a franchise that has been growing in popularity for decades, whether it was the books, the movies, or shows.

I, for one, love everything they do. The newest show in the Goosebumps franchise, entitled Goosebumps, similar to the other shows and movies, is no different. Disney Plus is releasing up to ten episodes, one episode every Friday.

The show follows a group of teenagers who slowly uncover secrets about what happened to a kid who died in their hometown when their parents were teenagers.

The famous Goosebumps character “Slappy the Dummy” makes a reappearance. Slappy has always been a fan favorite. His aggressive comedy is what makes him so likable, in my opinion. Slappy is the character you know in the back of your mind that he’ll always come back, which makes him so fascinating to watch, even after all the reappearances he’s already made in the other movies.

Besides Slappy, there is a whole new group of characters with an easy-to-follow storyline with shocking and creative events. My favorite episode so far is episode 4, “Go Eat Worms,” which is as gross as the title implies. Goosebumps always had different psychological ways to scare their audience, and this new series is no different. I nearly lost my lunch watching hundreds of worms entering one of the characters, Lucus’ body. Everyone has a favorite character in the show they watch, and Lucas has his free spirit and “class clown” vibe, which I like.

There are times when you have to look away, and times when you’re on the edge of your seat. The horror is what you came for, but what keeps you engaged and anxiously waiting a week for the next episode, is the comedy and relatability mixed in. There’s romance, petty high school arguments, and friendships. It’s a modern storyline to the classic franchise we all know and love. This show has great possibilities, and everyone should watch it at least once.
