Boys and girls varsity swim and dive looks for success at the regional championship when they are rescheduled after being cancelled for weather concerns this week.

After completing their regular season undefeated with a record of 5-0, the ‘Rines had ten swimmers swim at Metros at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center on Saturday. During the Metros swim meet, the ‘Rines competed in the 400 and 200 free relays for boys and girls and four ‘Rines competed in individual events.

Swimmers sophomore Naina Tsarni, freshman Khava Tsarni, senior Lowell Brophy and senior Peter Orban were the lone solo swimmers. The girls 400 free relay team consisted of senior Erika Wolf, Naina Tsarni, junior MacKenzie Allen, and Khava Tsarni. They finished thirtieth overall in the Metro area.

The 400 boys relay team consisted of Orban, junior Sawyer Conklin, and seniors Nahom Michael, and Brophy. They got the best time in their heat and ranked 27th overall in the Metro area. “Our team did really [well], even though Metros is a hard meet,” Conklin said.

The girls 200 relay consisted of  Allen, Khava Tsarni, senior Caitlyn Rishell, and Naina Tsarni, and the Lady ‘Rines finished strongly in the relay.

On January 30, the Wolverines swam against the Springbrook Blue Devils and won with a score of 401 to 378. Khava Tsarni dove into second place in the women’s 200 free with a time of 2:12:47. “I’m proud of the team,”  Khava Tsarni said. “We did really well in the second half of the meet.”

Brophy added a second place finish with a time of 23.81 in the mens 50m free. “I feel great that I dropped time,” Brophy said.

On January 16, the ‘Rines swam against the Seneca Valley Screamin’ Eagles and won with a score of 94 to 74. “ It was a close meet but our team worked hard and came out on top,” Brophy added. The ‘Rines placed 2nd in the men’s 200m medley relay.
