Boys and girls varsity swim and dive look to jump back into the pool January 9 at 9:15am against the Northwood Gladiators and the Kennedy Cavaliers.

In this past weekends’ meet, both the boys and girls continued their undefeated season against the Wheaton Knights and the Springbrook Blue Devils. The girls won by a score of 84-81. The boys won by a score of 103-60, making them now 3-0.

The team, both boys and girls, came home with a victory against Wheaton Knights on December 5, winning against the Knights 117-46. “The team has definitely improved from last year,” girls varsity swim captain Gabi Poggy said. ”Even though we are missing a couple of people, [everyone is] stepping up and taking on challenges.”

On December 12, the ‘Rines faced off against the Paint Branch Panthers and completely blew them out of the water, with a big win of 99-0.  “Our top three girls at that meet were senior Kaitlyn Rishell, sophomore Naina Tsarni, and freshmen Khava Tsarni,” senior Erica Wolf said.

The girls varsity team won the 100 breaststroke, 400 relay, 100 free, and many other events. Rishell got a time of 1:24.75 and Naina Tsarni got a 1:15.4 in the 100 breaststroke.

The season started off in that December 5 meet against Wheaton. Although both boys and girls won, Poggy said, “[We still] need to work on our turns and the walls because that’s where people are getting out touched.”

The team had so much discipline that even after a 90-63 victory, senior Nathan Hurt said, “I did pretty good but [there is certainly room for improvement].” The girls also splashed Wheaton out of the water with a score of 117-46.

In addition to their undefeated season, the swim team has already beaten the toughest team in their division, Paint Branch High School. Look for them to continue their dominance and give Montgomery County swim schools a new shark to fear in their next meet after winter break.  Go ‘Rines!
