Sports Wrap-Up: January 7, 2019

Boys Basketball 

Watkins Mill boys basketball took on the Blake Bengals on Saturday. Unfortunately, the boys came up short with a loss with a final score of 53-42.

A highlight of Saturday’s match-up was senior Devio’N Bridges’ full court shot to end the first half. The clip was even featured on the Sports Center Top 10 plays this morning. “I’m really thankful for the opportunity. Shoutout to Coach Riley!” Bridges said.

Girls Basketball 

The girls basketball team walked away with a victory on Friday, January 4.

“I wish I didn’t have to sit out because of my ACL injury but I know they pushed hard and they played so well,” junior Adriana Amaya said. The team pushed hard and worked to defeat Blake by only five points but are still overjoyed to have come out victorious.

Make sure to cheer on the ‘Rines today at Watkins Mill when they face off against Damascus and again at Northwest High School on January 7.

Wrestling:

Watkins Mill High School Wolverines wrestling got third place in the wrestling tournament at St. John’s College High School Saturday, January 5.

Freshman Romeo Tsai won four matches and had one loss. Junior Justin Benitez won three matches and loss two. “I think I could have done better, I know I tried but it just wasn’t my best,” Benitez said. Junior Victor Kum also won three matches at the event.

‘Rines wrestling wrestle again Saturday, January 12 in a tournament.
