Sports Wrap-Up: October 15, 2018

Football

Boys varsity football got stung during a hard fight against the Damascus Hornets on Friday, October 12.

Even though the score ended with ‘Rines down 14-28, the boys managed to keep the score at 0-0 against the hard-to-beat (8-0) Dmass Hornets until the third quarter.

The ‘Rines held steady in the first quarter not giving up any points.

The second quarter opened up with three touchdowns by Dmass, completely shutting out the ‘Rines. The boys bounced back with two touchdowns of their own scored by junior Demetrius Rush after a 63-yard run and junior David-Vincent Okoli after an eight-yard pass.

Support the boys next week when they play the Poolsville Falcons, Friday October 19!

Cross Country

Watkins Mill Cross Country Wolverines fell short in a hard fought battle to Wheaton High School Knights 42 to 19. ‘Rines had two runners in the top six with senior Zach Pepperl in third place and senior John Boyd placing in sixth place.

The meet had a “really good showing from the team,” coach Mary Frank said.

Come join the ‘Rines Cross Country team at Bohrer Park for counties Saturday October 27.

 

Girls Soccer

On October 10, 2018, the girls varsity team competed hard but lost with the final score being 10-1 in their last game against the. Senior Nana Osei Tutu scored the goal with her tremendous scoring ability on the offensive end.

“It was a tough loss for u, but we will bounce back,” sophomore Jaden Gabaton. “We have a tough game against Walter Johnson next week but we should end up on top if we convert as a team and play our hardest.”

The girls varsity soccer team goes against Walter Johnson High School on Wednesday, October 17, which will be an away game for them.
