Wolverines say goodbye to seniors, prepare to tame tigers against Blake Friday night

Not only are the ‘Rines looking to face off the Blake Bengals at home this Friday,  but it’s also a farewell to our beloved seniors on the annual football senior night.

Despite losing 7-34 to the Tuscarora Titans on October 23, the ‘Rines are confident they’ll bring home a win this week. Senior corner Luis Jimenez felt like the practices they have been doing will keep the intensity up, and said how “good practices make a good game.”

“The team only has a few mistakes that I am sure they will fix up, and we’d just need to finish [the game],” Jimenez added. From senior wide receiver and free safety Schezarone Carter running the ball for a 22-yard gain, making it a Wolverines’ first down to senior captain wide receiver Devonte Bruff going for a 20-yard gain as well, the boys made some very impressive plays last Friday.

Playing Rockville High School on October 15, Carter said, “The team wasn’t all there as a team in the first half, and we should’ve been together as one at the beginning–not towards the end.”

Senior wide receiver Corey Perry added, “We definitely need to make not-so-blown assignments, make our defense better and make our passing game better so we can hold them.”

Senior wide receiver Abdoulie Sarr says, “Throughout the season we’ve been doing well, we have our ups and downs. We faced adversity… As a team, we played good, we just didn’t finish.”

“Some people are not going 100 percent, we need to go 100 percent every time,” Sarr added.

Sophomore safety Devon McRoy felt that the team did well and came together after the second half.  McRoy was convinced they still had a chance of winning. He pointed out a key player, junior running back and safety Brian McNeary because, along with his contributions to the team, McNeary “had a punt return, almost scored on a screen pass and had a lot of yards.” McRoy himself also had four tackles in two quarters.

Sophomore quarterback Markel Grant says the team ultimately “came up short,” which won’t be a problem this week against the Bengals, with Orange Nation there supporting the team every step of the way. Go ‘Rines!
