IOS games shift focus from notes to phone
“Put your phone away.”
“I said ‘put your phone away.'”
“PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY OR I’M TAKING IT AND GIVING IT TO SECURITY AND YOUR PARENTS WILL HAVE TO COME GET IT!”
Many teachers have complained about students having the new iOS 10 update for the iPhone that allows you to play a wide variety of games with your friends through iMessage,
Games included are 8 Ball, Sea Battle, Checkers, Dots & Boxes, 20 Questions, and many more. The newest update added more games like Mini Golf and Mancala. Most people believe that 8 Ball is the best game out of the 19 available. “I love playing 8 Ball. I don’t lose,” junior Markel Grant said.
Teachers get annoyed that students are always on their phones playing games, and warn that their grades may drop due to the distraction. “I don’t get distracted during class because I only play when I’m bored,” Grant said.
Some students find that a few of the games are useful for school. “I play Anagrams a lot. It increases my vocabulary and it makes me think fast,” junior Fatoumata Drammeh said. Anagrams is a game that gives you eight random letters to make as many words as possible in one minute.
The setup of the iOS games lets you choose from different levels before playing a game to decide if you would like to play the easy or hard mode. “It’s very smart how they setup the games and it’s interesting how they created the techniques,” Drammeh said. “iOS keeps surprising me with new games and creativity.”
Some students that do not have an iPhone get annoyed because they always hear or see their friends playing these iMessage games. “I get frustrated when my friends ask me to play them in [8 Ball] because I don’t have an iPhone,” senior Daniel Suarez said.
“I’m addicted to watching people play [8 ball] because it’s so fun and interesting,” Suarez added. The new iOS games are very impressive, but what do they have next for us? Apple is very creative, so hopefully they will keep thinking of great game ideas in the future.

Thanks for the information. I didn’t know this was possible in iOS 10. 🙂
