Volleyball bumps up enthusiasm after tough losses
Girls volleyball looks to bounce back from their loss against Magruder as they take on the Clarksburg Coyotes on October 19. The team played three hard fought games last week that resulted in tragic outcomes.
The Wolverines fought hard throughout their game against Magruder on Tuesday, but the Colonels found a way to pull out a win against our ‘Rines. The final score was a heartbreaking 0-3 loss. The high ranked Colonels gave our Lady ‘Rines a very rough time.
The Lady Wolverines lost a tough game against a very good Poolesville team. Though the team lost 0-3, they showed a lot of improvement. “We lost but fought really hard,” sophomore Camille Allie said. “We got better at communicating, but I think we need to improve our passes.”
The Wolverines have been gifted with a lot of young talent including sophomores Kati Hruska, Ariana Rey and Vanessa Mazariegos. The Lady Wolverines played well against the top team in the county, but could never get ahead of the Falcons. Each set was a battle, but at the end of the game the Falcons out clawed our ’Rines.
Senior Mary Munjam said, “I think the team did really well.” Munjam also agreed that the team needs to work on getting passes better and calling the ball.
Senior captain Lauren Montgomery said, “I will try to encourage the team more and not make as many errors as I did.”
The team had a less successful performance against the Rockville Rams. Though the result was the same, the team seemed to have less energy. Sophomore Kati Hruska commented that communication was needed in the game. “We need to move on the court more,” Hruska added.
Throughout the season, the team has been steadily building good team chemistry. This will help them in their upcoming games against Clarksburg and Quince Orchard high schools.
