Continuing TheCurrent’s yearly tips for freshmen, I, Junee Kim, a senior who’s been at Watkins Mill for all four years, will help you out.
Don’t stand around
MOVE!! For the love of God, do NOT stand in the middle of the hallway (especially the intersection of the C, D, and E hallways). Speaking from experience, I had a tough time navigating the school at first too, but just ask anybody and they’ll be willing to help you find your classes!
Stop Skipping Class
Let’s set things straight. It’s not cool to skip class. Get it together! Especially with the stricter attendance policies, personally, I wouldn’t risk it…
Pay Attention in Class (AND DO YOUR ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME!)
Yes, we’ve all heard about the new grading system a gazillion times. But for real, take your classes seriously now so future-you isn’t stressed over your GPA when it’s college app season.
Join Clubs and Sports
Although academics are important, it’s also essential to have a life outside of school. Clubs and teams are a great way to meet new people, try new things, and find a sense of community. Don’t miss out.
PLEASE Wear Deodorant
A lot of you freshmen will be taking gym this year to knock out that credit requirement, so do everyone a favor and wear deodorant.
Pull Up to Events!!
Especially as football season is starting up, we need the den to be packed!! Come to games, wear your orange and blue, and show that Watkins Mill pride. Go loud or go home!
I hope these tips help you adjust to the Mill! Good luck to you, Class of ’29!
