The Mobile eXploration Lab was at Watkins Mill High School for science classes for a week in November showing students the amazing world of STEM.
The MXLab, created by Learning Undefeated, is the biggest and most advanced STEM education vehicle in the country. The labs have professional grade equipment, technology, and techniques that aren’t available in schools for students to use. Students can go in and experience different labs that are related to STEM. They have seven curricula: bio-science, chemistry, physics, engineering, data set modeling, cyber security, and AI.
Science teacher Megan Wahl said, “our students get to see technology and lab equipment that is realistic. [The same lab equipment that] is used in some of the STEM workplaces that we have in the Washington DC area…[students] also get connected with resources for STEM careers and programs that help encourage students to go into the field of science, technology, engineering, and math.”
Education program lead Ashley LaVerdure and Education coordinator Hannah Schoeppner are the ones running the labs and helping students through the experiments. On November 13th, Wahl’s 7th period class was learning about the periodic elements and how they were built based on the properties of each element.
LaVerdure said, “Our goals are to provide STEM education and STEM resources to primarily under-represented communities, as well as try and bridge the equity gap.”
The MXLab was here until November 15th.
