Softball battles Knights tonight in first round of playoffs

Wolverines’ softball looks to steal a playoff win tonight at home against the Wheaton Knights at 5:15 after finishing the regular season with a record of 1-15.

It was a tough season for the ‘Rines but they came together and are ready to explode in time for the playoffs. I think we need to communicate with each other because it is definitely a team we can beat,” junior Claudia Rius said.

The Wolverines lost their final game of the season, losing 1-11 on the road to Springbrook on Tuesday.  Springbrook led the whole game as the ‘Rines could not manage to make enough contact and drive home runs.

It has been a rough patch of games for the offense and it showed here.  The team has continued to pour their effort out into the game and the results should be coming. “We’re showing a lot of progress towards this end of the season,” junior Brianne Besley said. ”But we still have a lot to improve on.”

The struggling ‘Rines look forward to their playoff game and hope to shock the county with a first round win.

Watkins Mill suffered a 1-12 loss at home on senior night to Northwood on May 4.  It has been a tough few weeks for the team and this game was no exception. The team was never able to fully click and it showed up on the scoreboard.

It was the last home game for seniors Arohi Brahmbahatt and Mel Torres and they definitely played their hearts out but could not dig up the win.

Our communication was better, we made contact with the ball , we had really strong defense,” Torres said.

The team is entering the playoffs on a five-game losing streak, after these past two games.  They are keeping their heads up and hopefully the ‘Rines can turn the corner in time for the playoffs.
