As Halloween creeps up, everybody scrambles to put together a last-minute costume. But don’t fret! Hillary and Junee will give their ultimate guide on do’s and don’ts for costumes this year. Whether you’re planning to hit parties or hit the neighborhood for treats, we’ve got you covered.
Do’s
- Throwback Thursday: Run it back for Halloween! As we reach our final ages to trick-or-treat, reminisce on childhood fun. Choose your favorite childhood character and recreate a timeless look, whether it be Paddington, Pinkalicious, or The Girl Who Had a Bad Case of Stripes! Don’t do overdone childhood characters though: be unique.
- Horror Movie Characters: You can’t go wrong with dressing up as a classic horror movie character! You won’t spend all of your Halloweekend explaining what costume you have on because it’s instantly recognizable. Tip: Don’t recreate the Field of Screams. Stay inside for trick-or-treating.
- Recreate Album Covers: Hit albums have been released this year! Choose an album or song of your liking and try recreating it. Our favorite has been the recreation of Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s blue and red attire for their song, “Die With a Smile.”
Don’ts
- Alvin and the Chipmunks: As easy as the costume may be, it’s only a colored shirt with a big letter in the middle. Doesn’t stand out, way too plain, boring. You’re not dressed up if all you did was tape a sloppy letter on your shirt. It’s either dress up or give up.
- Thing One & Thing Two: Thing One and Thing Two, oh what a mess/These costumes are bad, we must confess/They’re old and overdone, not spooky or rad,/On Halloween night, they’re just plain bad.
- Corset + Tutu: Although this costume is cute and a go-to for many, it’s basic and overdone. On Halloween, you’ll either be partying all night or going door-to-door in freezing conditions. A corset and tutu won’t be comfortable for any spooky festivities!
Whether you’re wearing any of these or not, these are just our opinions! Make the best out of Halloween this year and make sure to have fun and stay safe!
