Baseball plans to tame Titans tonight at home against Einstein
Boys varsity baseball looks to swat away the Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets in a home game today at 5:15pm after a rough game against the Einstein Titans on April 30.
The team still held Einstein to under 10 runs but they just couldn’t capitalize on the offensive side of the game. While they played a competitive game, “The team wasn’t getting any hits in,” junior Daniel Gregory said. It was a tough afternoon for the team, with an eventual 1-7 loss, but they had some positive areas in that defeat.
The team lost a tough matchup to the Churchill Bulldogs 3-8 on April 27. Despite the loss the team played well. Churchill is a good team and our boys stuck with them for the entire game. Although the team lost, “We hit the ball well,” Gregory added.
Many players on the team said that hitting fly balls instead of ground balls contributed to the loss. The team is still working hard to try and commit less errors and every game they are getting better about it. “We should work harder, and focus more at practice,” junior Daniel Suarez added.
“We need to come out as a unit, we need to come out and focus together as one and we need to play like a team,” junior JC Sandoval said. “It’s not individual, it’s a team effort.” The team is focused on getting more “W’s” in the win column so they can roll into the playoffs on a strong note.
The team played an excellent game against the Wheaton Knights on April 25 that resulted in a 10-0 win. This was the first game in which the team did not give up a single run.
The team scored more than nine runs for the first time this season. This is the best game our ‘Rines have played so far. “We all hit the ball well, and played clean defense,” Suarez said.
Our ‘Rines only gave up two hits throughout the entire game. The win was a great team effort. “We came in with confidence, we came in knowing that we could beat them, and we got hyped before the game,” Sandoval added.
