Varsity baseball battle Knights at home today after rough games against Blake, Poolesville

The varsity boys baseball team looks to get revenge from a match-up earlier in the season as they face the Wheaton Knights at home today. All of Orange Nation should come out and support as the boys take the field at 3:45.

In their most recent match against Blake on Wednesday, the team lost 4-8. “The whole team just felt [really horrible] after the loss,” junior Daniel Suarez said. The ‘Rines played very well, especially Suarez who recovered from his strikeout against Seneca Valley High School by hitting the first home run of the season.

The ‘Rines lost a tough one to a very good Poolesville squad on Monday. The final score was 15-1. The boys didn’t hit their best, and it as a game they just wanted to forget. “We played lazy and we just weren’t hyped up enough,” senior Lowell Brophy said. But the team did not give up here.

In another match-up, the boys beat up on Magruder on April 16 in an 8-5 win. The team played one of their best games of the season in the big victory. “We had no errors,” Brophy said. The team had struggled throughout the first part of the season with errors, so this was a step in the right direction for them.

A big part of the win was how the boys approached the game. “We were hyped for the game,” Suarez said. The team’s energy going into the game was enough to help swing the Colonels out of the park.

Brophy said, “We kept yelling and getting in their heads.” This allowed the ‘Rines to win the mental part of the game just as they won the physical part.  “A lot of the team outside of practice go to the batting cage and work on hitting,” Brophy added. This is a big factor that increased runs in their past games.

The Watkins Mill boys record may not reflect it, but with each game they improve on something. The score isn’t always what describes the game, but the level of heart that our boys put into it always is.
