Sports Wrap Up: May 16-19

WMHS Varsity Track and Field team at the MPSSAA 3A West Regional Championship Track and Field meet.

The ‘Rines competed in the 3A West Region Championships on Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 18.

Senior Emmanuel Nwankwo earned the regional championship title in the triple-jump event with a new personal best of 42-03.00, earning his place in the state championships.

Freshman Kamar Sutherland finished third in the 110m hurdles finals, which also earned him a spot in the state championships.

Freshman Samuel Koiwood finished tenth in the 100m finals with a time of 11.46 seconds.

Koiwood and sophomore David Boley finished in eleventh and twelfth place in the 200m finals, respectively.

Junior Ella Rishell set a new personal best and finished third in the 200m finals with a time of 26.71 seconds.  Rishell also placed second in the 400m finals with a time of 59.71 seconds.

Senior Joshua Derosier finished fourth in the 400m finals with a new personal best of 51.82 seconds.  Derosier finished 10th in the 800m finals with a new personal best of 2:03:57.

Junior Darren Skyers finished thirteenth in the 400m finals with a new personal best of 54.41 seconds.

Sophomores Jahmayne Williams and Lauren Wright finished tenth and eleventh in the 100m hurdles finals, respectively.

Freshman Madison Medley finished seventh in the shot put with a new personal best of 28-05.25.  Medley also finished third in the discus finals with a new personal best of 93-04.

Congratulations to the Track and Field team for a collective, spectacular performance at the Region Championships.  Be sure to wish those who are continuing onto the state championship lots of luck.

Boys Tennis

Junior Md Rahman and sophomore Muhammad Rahman competed in the Regional Championship on Tuesday, May 17, unfortunately losing two close sets which spelled the end of their season. Congratulations to them on a good season.
