Graduation set for June 13 at DAR Constitution Hall
Graduation is scheduled for June 13 at 2:30pm at DAR Constitution Hall in DC. This will be the first graduation in the Constitution Hall since 2019, however, this is subject to change because of the ongoing pandemic.
Graduation is fast approaching and seniors are filled with excitement as they are about to move on with the next chapter of their lives. The ceremony is going to take place at the DAR Constitution Hall in DC, if the constitution hall is inapplicable it will be held in the Watkins Mill Football Field.
“[Graduation] is very nerve-wracking, but I’m really excited,” Jeyssi Huaycochea said.
Graduation Rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, June 10 from 9am-12pm in the main gym. During rehearsal, students will receive eight tickets that they are to use for the people they wish to invite. A google form should be completed if a student wishes to request more.
According to history teacher and graduation coordinator Lauren Squier “Right now the plan [for graduation] is to go back to DAR Constitution Hall in DC. Obviously, things are fluid with COVID.”
The mask mandate will depend on whatever the DC law is. At the moment DC does not require masks in retail businesses, entertainment venues, and other public indoor settings.
“We have to look at what DC law is and that will trump whatever MCPS law is,” Squier said.
Senior Bryant Olivia said, “I keep saying to myself ‘I’m pretty excited to leave,’ at the same time, I’m definitely going to miss Watkins Mill.”
