Boys soccer rallies to raise money for new equipment
RallyAroundUs is hosting an online fundraiser with the Watkins Mill boy’s soccer team with earnings going towards the team and the entirety of the athletic department.
Money raised through the app and website will go towards new equipment including cones, pinnies and agility equipment. “It was really nice to see people trying to help out our program and to know that people in the community support us,” boys soccer coach Joshua Halper said. The team’s goal of $2,500 is something they hope to meet by September 26. Anyone can donate through RallyAroundUs and there is no limit on how much one person can donate.
“The fundraiser will allow us to get the new equipment to practice properly,” senior soccer player Assou Kowo said. “It’s especially important for our underclassmen who will be here in the years coming because it will allow them to have a strong program to look up to.”
RallyAroundUs found the team through athletic director Lisa Magness. Halper hopes to continue to build up the fundraiser and eventually make it an annual event for boys soccer.
“We’re really grateful and every dollar helps,” Halper added. “It doesn’t just go to soccer, it goes to the entire athletic program in the school, so it helps everybody.”
