Watkins Mill Wolverines tear Northwood Gladiators limb-from-limb
Wolverines varsity football defeated Northwood High School’s Gladiators 50-to-0 at Northwood High School on Friday, September 28.
“We were focused all week, especially defensive backs, I think they played really well and made really good adjustments,” coach Michael Brown said. “Winning is always good. We’re going to prepare for Rockville like we [prepare] every game.”
‘Rines defense came up big, allowing zero points and getting multiple sacks and interceptions.
Senior Darnell Lewis Jr. had a team high 109 receiving yards. Junior Kyle Wingate Jr. had a personal record season-high of five passing touchdowns with 201 passing yards and a 61 percent completion rating.
Junior Kevin Mensah scored two receiving touchdowns. Junior Baebaa Sayeh ran for 106 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. Sophomores Donovan Brown and Peter Kikwata also had one receiving touchdown.
“I felt good, it was my first touchdown of the season and I was lucky enough to get a second touchdown,” Mensah said.
“My team and I approach every team the same whether they’re the worst team or the best team,” senior wide receiver and defensive end Kameron Thorpe said. “We don’t look at their record, that doesn’t matter to us because we know who we are and we know what we’re going to do to Rockville.”
The Homecoming game against Rockville High School’s Rams is on Friday, October 4 at Watkins Mill High School as the ‘Rines look to give the Rams their first loss of the season.
