Field hockey skirts victory, comes up short in season opener
The girls’ varsity and junior varsity field hockey team came up short in winning their first game of the season against the Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets this past weekend. The varsity girls played hard through and through fighting to score and defend their goal but Damascus was able to score in the final two seconds of the game, 0-1.
“It actually wasn’t a bad game just unfortunate,” senior Rachel Janzen said. “I think if we practice more [on] defensive it will be better.”
Junior varsity came behind with the same unfortunate loss of 0-1 and is just as determined to come back strong learning how to be better.
“As a team, we could have spread out to be open for passes and call the ball to avoid third-man obstructions,” freshman Morgan Holt said.
Both teams play next on Tuesday, September 10. JV at 3:15 and Varsity 3:45.
