Sports Wrap-Up: December 17, 2018

Wrestling

Varsity wrestling defeated James Hubert Blake High School and lost a hard fought battle to Richard Montgomery High School at Blake on Saturday, December 15.

Junior Victor Kum and junior Justin Benitez won both of their matches.

“Parents and coaches came up to me giving me compliments, asking where I learned this one move I kept using,” Kum said.

‘Rines wrestling moves on to a record of 3-1.

Girls Basketball

Girls basketball took another a hard fight versus Clarksburg Coyotes Friday night, December 14. The team lost 52-12 after a very long game with dedication from both sides.

The ‘Rines plan to bounce back at their next game December 18 at home versus Walter Johnson at 7:15pm.

“I think if we work hard we can definitely do better,” sophomore Isis Obolebsky said. “Once again, we are still a new team and have a lot of time to improve.”

 

Boys Basketball

Watkins Mill boys basketball took on cross-town rival, the Clarksburg Coyotes on Friday, December 14. Unfortunately, the boys were not able to prevail and ended the game in a loss. The boys are currently 1-3 on the season but look to add another win this Tuesday as they travel to Bethesda to take on Walter Johnson tomorrow night.

“Communicating and doing the little things right will help us [win],” senior Lucas Elenga said. The boys’ next home game is this Thursday against Einstein. Come out and support!
