Girls volleyball ends strong season in second round of playoffs

Volleyball capped off an exciting season with a heart-breaking loss against Magruder High School on November 9. The final score was a 3-1 loss, with every set being a hard-fought battle. The Lady Wolverines had an awesome season that concluded in a solid playoff run. The Wolverines gave the number-one seed Magruder a run for their money.

Contributions were made by all of the Wolverine starters with leadership by senior Delmi Dominguez and strong defense by seniors Tiffany Haynes and Lauren Montgomery. The Colonels took the first set but our Lady ‘Rines struck back and stole the second set.

The game ended in a hard fought loss in the final set. The ‘Rines left their blood, sweat and tears on the court in the season ending defeat.

The ‘Rines were drained but still put their all in it. “To get ready for the game, I did jump rope and warmed up,” senior Kristel Galvez said. “We could’ve gone farther… we always get stuck.”

Earlier in the playoffs, the Lady ‘Rines punished the Wheaton Knights on November 5 in a 3-0 win. The Wolverines dominated the Knights in every aspect of the game. This was their final home game of the year and they did not disappoint.

During the regular season, the Wolverines showed lots of improvements in games against heavyweights 4A teams Einstein and Quince Orchard high schools. This is part of the reason why they had great success in the playoffs leading up to the Magruder game.

Sophomore Camille Allie said, “We would’ve fought harder, but in the end we gave it all we had.”

The Wolverines had a great season through the ups and downs.  They put it all out there every game and all of their hard work payed off in the end.

Congratulations to the 2015 Watkins Mill Volleyball team on a great season full of fun and success farewell seniors and to all others, see you next year for another great season.
