Lucas would have written his column sooner, but senioritis set in
Have you ever waited until the last minute to finish an assignment so you can boost your grade up miraculously, but the teacher questions you for slacking all quarter? That’s me right now trying to go from a D to an A.
“Why haven’t you been doing your assignments?” or “You been on your phone all class period, why should I help you?” is a response I usually get when I ask my teachers what can I do to get the good grade. There really is no real answer to give them, but I thought of many different ideas.
“I’m five months pregnant, Mrs. D, morning sickness has been kicking in and I can’t focus,” or “It’s that time of the month, and I haven’t been myself with these cramps,” these work, though I didn’t use either because I am incapable of getting pregnant and having a period.
So I thought maybe I should try a more believable excuse, “Aliens invaded me and left a clone of me so nobody knew I was gone and I finally escaped.” No, if I said that I would probably have to go to a counseling doctor due to my insane imagination.
In the end, I had to tell her straight up and say, “Your class is boring and with your monotone voice I zone out, so please help me.” As soon as I said it, she draws a blank facial expression, as if she’s seen a ghost.
With that response, I ended up getting five assignments due at 2:45 pm or I fail the class. As I thought to myself, “Why does this teacher hate me?” I remember last week when I talked through an entire lecture she was giving. Or the time when I went to the library to print something out and I never came back.
But those aren’t that bad, I usually go to class every day. I just to pull out my phone and headphones and ignore the teacher until the bell rings.
I’ve just come to the conclusion that I just have too much senioritis and I don’t really need to see the amazing grade, just the passing grade, so I didn’t do the work.
Hope colleges don’t actually check up on fourth quarter grades or I’m out of luck!
