Annual spring break trip will take students to China after visiting Greece last year
Spring break is a wonderful time to sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself… or go to China. Here at Watkins Mill High School, social studies teacher Thomas Sneddon offers annual educational school trips overseas.
Sneddon took over from social studies teacher Adam Schwartz in running the annual trip, taking students to places like Greece, England and France. This spring break, the students are heading to China for an adventure of a lifetime.
Students will visit Beijing, Shanghai, and many more amazing places while they are in China. They will also be able to learn about the culture, enjoy lots of foreign food, and maybe even get some real fried rice while they’re at it.
The trips usually last ten days and only juniors and seniors are eligible to go. “There’s a difference of maturity level… and I want a group of good kids mature enough to be on their own,” Sneddon said. Students interested in these trips must meet Sneddon’s expectations or else they will not take part in these trips.
Senior Salekri Sayeh called last year’s Greece trip “one of the best [experiences] I ever had. I’d recommend it because you get insight on how other people live… I’d definitely want to do it again.”
Sneddon works through a company called Education First Tours, whose global mission is “Opening the World Through Education.”
Despite Sneddon’s frequent use of EF Tours, this spring break will be his first trip to China. “It’s brand new… it’ll be a new adventure for everybody, which is really cool,” Sneddon added.
Next year’s spring break group will be going to Italy, visiting places like Capri and Pompeii. The first interest meeting for the trip to Italy took place on October 23 in the Media Center. Information about the trip’s cost and hotels was addressed. Students also received packets answering any questions they might still have had.
These trips are great opportunities to go out, learn, and explore the world. You get to see beautiful places and learn new things about the culture, the food, or whatever it may be. This is a chance you do not want to miss out on, so get on the website and sign up!
