National Honors Society starts a food pantry for students and families in need.
During the 2022-2023 high school year, Watkins Mill High School’s National Honor Society students arranged a food pantry for their annual project to help those in need. The idea stemmed from the little free library but with non-perishable food and materials instead of books. Students and families can give what they can and take what they need.
NHS is asking for donations of pantry staples such as canned soup, pasta boxes, tomato sauce, and any other non-perishable items. As well as any monetary assistance to push this project and any future projects further. Please reach out to Maria Duran if that is of interest to you and drop off the food in the main office. Their goal is to have at least three food pantries in the WM area by the end of the school year. By taking the time to donate, the community will be positively affected and many families will be able to benefit from it. Anything makes a difference.
It is advised to give what you personally would like to receive. Below is a list of items that would be great for the pantry.
Peanut butter
Canned soup
Canned fruit
Canned vegetables
Canned stew
Canned fish
Canned beans
Canned tomatoes/pasta sauce
Canned meat (chicken, beef, etc.)
Canned or plastic condiments and spices
Canola and olive oil sprays
Canned broth and stock
Toilet paper
Paper Towels
Soap/dish soap/ shampoo/ conditioner
Pencils/pens/color pencils/erasers
Think about how many people this will benefit and give and take generously!
