Boys Soccer looks to conquer Colonels and continue playoff run

Boys soccer looks to dominate the Magruder Colonels tonight, for the second time this season in the third round of the playoffs after beating the Blake High School Bengals in the ‘Rines playoff opener.

‘Rines soccer beat the Blake Bengals in an overtime thriller 3-2. Senior Jojo Cann scored two early goals for the team to give them a comfortable lead until the last 8 minutes. Blake scored 2 quick ones to send the game into overtime. With the Rines’ playing one man down, senior Daniel Juresic headed in a ball for the win. Orange Nation stormed the track to show support for their boys.

The boys beat the Trojans 1-0 in a thriller at the opponent’s stadium. The boys came into the game already having clinched the division as well as a playoff spot, but wanted to end the regular season on a high note. The goal was scored by Jojo Cann.

“The mindset will change obviously, it’s go big or go home,” said junior Yann Kouemi. The boys finished their season 11-1. “We’ve been waiting for playoffs since the beginning of the season,” Kouemi added.

On a very emotional night, the team beat Seneca Valley in dominating fashion in the seniors last regular season home game at Watkins Mill. “Walking out with family after getting a good win felt great and very memorable,” senior Juresic said. The boys beat Seneca 5-1. Goals were scored by Kouemi, Juresic and seniors Andy Alvarado, Walter Gomez, and Oswaldo Baires-Mendez.  

“When you win on senior night it makes it even more special,” said Kouemi who has been a big part of the Watkins Mill offensive dominance. In this game senior goalie Eddie Huebner recorded his third straight shutout.

The boys took on the Clarksburg Coyotes and beat them soundly by a score of 3-0. Alvarado, Kouemi, and Cann netted the three goals for the team. “[We] felt great after the Clarksburg win, they’re great rivals and it always feels good to win,” Koumei said.

Look for our boys to be right in the state championship mix. “We will bring the [champion]ship back here to Watkins Mill,” said Koumei.

The boys next playoff game is tonight, starting at 6 at the mill.  So all of orange nation should come out and support.
